Pencil, paper, tape, pen, rulers, straight edges. For her drawings Carmen Herrera uses only the means and materials necessary to achieve the purpose of simply and clearly arranging line and space in order to translate them later into painting. Nevertheless the drawings are important in her work, as all major decisions are made and worked out in the drawing stage. From this dialogue between “the paper and her imagination” emerge Herrera drawings as form studies, personal notes, collections of ideas or as first drafts for her eventual paintings.
